it hurts me that we can raise 600k for alton sterling’s family and 170k for philando castile’s family but not 20k for essence bowman’s family.

I haven’t even heard of Essence Bowman until now. I went to look up who she was and the amount of articles on her are low. LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. pop up before a simple article on her.
I came across a GoFundMe page for her and she barely received $2k
I just donated, and the funds have doubled so far but that’s still less than $5k! Please spread her story and donate anything if you can - Essence,
27 year old mother of four, died in police custody under suspicious
circumstances, like so many black women and women of color in our
country (especially those with a mental illness, as she had). Her
family and husband did not know she was dead or even arrested until the hospital phoned
them to request her organs. She died on June 21st and as of yet the police have not contacted her family, and her story has not been covered by any local or national news sources.
Her four young children have to grow up without their
mother now - please consider donating a few dollars, and keep
circulating her story!
And if you can: CONTACT SULPHUR CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND DEMAND ANSWERS at (337) 527-4550
23,000 notes later I’m revisiting this post. My original point stands to all those who said it was because of lack of exposure that her fund was at 2k. There are two other 20k+ note posts about Essence Bowman and still her gofundme is at 5800. An improvement yes but Philando Castile and Alton Sterling’s gofundmes got hundreds of thousands of dollars donated.
Its not that ppl dont see cis and trans Black womens deaths. Its that they dont care because of misogynoir and transmisogynoir. Black women do so much for our communities yet no one gives back to us when it counts. It would be even better if ppl cared about us while we’re still alive. I do hope ppl continue to give a spread the word because #BlackWomenMatter. I’m still saddened by the misogynoir I see around me. Give if you can! #SayHerName
(wakes up in cold sweat at 3 am) every phrase on the reputation magazine polaroids turned out to be a lyric from reputation except for “how would you feel having a song written about you”. was it simply something taylor said to the person taking the photo? or was it a discarded lyric on one of the existing songs? if so which one? or was it a lyric from a song she did not include on the final album? how many songs/lyrics did she write that she ended up scrapping from the final album? will we ever get to hear about them? will w
