Make your technicolor dreams come true with a DIY that takes the delicate simplicity of lace to a bold and vibrant place. The pretty prisms of Christopher Kane’s Resort 2012 collection prove that going full spectrum can literally be like wearing a good mood…so get a taste of the rainbow by creating this chic tinted tank!
To create: Use a solid white tank as the canvas. Find lace that has a pattern you love- there are thousands of different options to discover! You will need about 1 yard total and can re-use the lace as a stencil once dry. Place the lace over the tank, using a colorful fabric spray to create a “stripe” across the top of the tee. P.S.- be sure to cover the surface underneath with newspaper so the surface will not get sprayed. Continue to spray the remainder of the tank, alternating colors and slightly overlapping them to give the colors a seamless and beautiful rainbow effect.
And it’s not even my birthday…
Proving that good taste doesn’t stop at what we wear and how we live is literally a piece of cake! We decided to stir things up this week and step into the kitchen to craft this special edition, edible DIY. Everyone knows that true style is all about layering mixed with little pops of surprise…so channel your inner Betty Crocker and sink your sweet tooth into this wildly colorful dessert that’s a feast for both the taste buds and the eyes!
To create, follow the directions on your cake mix and whip up a tasty batter. We used two boxes of Betty Crocker French Vanilla, and dropped neon food coloring into four separate mixing bowls. Follow baking instructions and let cool completely. Slice cakes in half using a sharp serrated knife. We suggest cutting upside-down on paper plates. This will raise the cake up slightly and make the cutting process easier. Alternate cake layers, and spread a thin layer of frosting as you stack. Cover the entire cake with a generous coat of frosting to finish off. Top it off with a cool marbleized effect.
